Guidance for Referrals to Always Another Way- low level mental health support.

Please read the following information before referring.

Referral criteria

  • Clients who are struggling with low level mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, low mood/depression (all age groups from 11years and older)
  • Parents/carers/siblings of 0-5 year olds who are struggling with low level mental health issues can be referred to us for person centred counselling
  • LGBTQ group for young people aged 11-25 year old
  • Lives in Allerdale and Copeland area only.

We accept referrals for clients who have been previously supported by First Steps, but cannot work with clients currently supported by First Steps.

What we don’t do

We don’t work with clients who have complex mental health issues such as bi polar, personality disorders, psychosis, ongoing self harming, eating disorders.

Therefore, we don’t accept referrals for those that are known to the following services (either currently working with or waiting to be allocated):

  • Community mental health team
  • Crisis Team
  • CADAS or other alcohol/drugs support service
  • CAMHS

Useful Information

It would be helpful to know if clients are known to any of the following services:

  • Adult social care
  • Children’s social care
  • Community mental health team
  • Crisis team First steps
  • CADAS or other alcohol/drugs support service
  • Health services
  • Police
  • Home group or similar
  • CAMHS
  • Social Prescriber/Health Coach
  • Domestic violence support
  • Bereavement support
  • Together We, Healthy Hopes, Safety Net or similar
  • Victim Support
  • CAB
  • Youth club
  • Family support centre
  • In school support
  • Autism support
  • Age UK
  • Other

We also need to know if there are any risks associated with home visits, such as:

  • Domestic violence in the home
  • Dangerous pets
  • High risk occupants and/or visitors
  • Alcohol and drugs misuse
  • Disputes/tensions with neighbours

For LGBTQ referrals it would be helpful to know what gender the client identifies as, if they are known by any other name and which pronoun they use.
